Falcons and (Tooth) Fairies

Big win for the Falcons tonight and Owen lost his second tooth. The tooth had been practically dangling for a week, and he let me tie some floss around it and then the other end around the doorknob. It kept slipping off the tooth. I remembered it always working with Dad when he did it with me as a kid. But just as I thought I better call Crandaddy for some advice - POP!

Owen was very impressed. Between that and the Falcons win, he LITERALLY went to sleep with a smile on his face.

Misc Fall

Jack loves to do "homework", because it is something Owen does too.

Jack in the leaves!

Just a sampling of our neighborhood wildlife. This fall, we have seen deer, racoons, wild turkey and one flying squirrel (I think)

Halloween

We had nice weather for both Halloween and Trick or Truck at church the week before.

Captain Jack

The first prize winning Robot!

Can't resist a swordfight!

Gorgeous day at Trick or Trunks!

Catching up on fall 2010

I have been remiss in my postings. Sorry!

Some gridiron action shots

Random power outage. Spent a couple of hours in the dark doing things the old-fashioned way... reading by flashlight!

Family photos

Per Sharon's request! It's hard to get a good one of all of us...

These two are from Mother's Day 2009

This one is Easter 2010... not so hot

Just another day in Paradise!

Just some misc photos over the past couple of weeks.

Kids playing in the tent over Labor Day weekend. Our backyard was more private than most campsites!

Riding bikes/bigwheels

On of Jack's favorite things is to swing and read on the porch - just like Mom.

Tiger Cub!

First Day of PreK

Same school, but moving up to a new "big boy" class. Jack was so excited, he let Will take pictures of him. He loves his new uniform and backpack.

The boys love to go stay with other people, and this weekend they got to do it in another state! The spent the night with Stephanie and had a weekend filled with movies, target, wii and even a trip to the International Motor speedway Museum in Talledega.

Whopper

Jack’s 4-year old check-up was today. He’s gained almost 5 lbs since a year ago and now weighs just over 33 lbs (which puts him in the 25th percentile, instead of the 10th) and he is 41 inches tall (the 75th percentile). So you can’t tell by looking at him, but he is gaining some heft.

He had to get a couple of shots, but managed to hold off on the crying until the nurse actually stuck him (unlike Owen who started hysterically screaming as soon as the nurse entered the room). And even though he made a big show of it, he did a 180 and started to dance and sing around the room as soon as the nurse turned on the bubble machine and offered him a cookie. Hmm, I think I’ve seen that move before.

This is a pic of him playing at Lake Yellowstone.

Owen is working on losing his first tooth. It is one of the ones on the bottom and has been a little slow to come out – the secondary tooth has actually already come in behind it. I’ve heard it referred to as having a “shark’s tooth”. But it’s finally getting really loose – I wish it would hurry and come out because it looks like it is barely in there and I’m afraid it is going to come out while he’s eating. Kinda grosses me out.

Owen has also gotten more interested in his bike lately – thanks to his ingenious mother =). He’s had it since Christmas, but he was a little nervous riding it, so he didn’t get on it much. But he is in to playing Wii, so I told him for every 20 minutes he spends riding his bike, he could bank 10 minutes of Wii time. So now every evening, he wants to ride that bike. He’s gotten pretty good on it too.

OMG

That is what Owen said while playing video games the other night - "OMG!" I asked if he knew what that stood for... he said no.

Speaking of video games, we've had to cut out playing them during the weekday evenings. They are tired after a long day and Owen's need for perfection (from himself and others) makes for a not-so-enjoyable evening. He is a little upset with our decision, especially since he just recently bought his new SuperMario game.

Thanks to Nancy for sharing this picture from Patrick's graduation party. O definitely thought he was one of the boys.

Honors Day

The last day of school (back in May – I’m just getting caught up with my posting duties) was Honors Day at A.L. Burruss Elementary. A student from each class was recognized in various subject areas (math, art, PE, etc). You-know-who received 2 awards – one in reading and spelling. He was thrilled. The next time you come by the house, be sure to ask him to see his certificates and medals that he has hanging in his room.

First Sunday in June

They are getting so BIG!

But yet, they never grow up.... this is Will entertaining himself while watching the kids in the nursery during the service.

Play day with John

Pictures of Owen and his friend John enjoying a play day at John's house. Owen was so excited about this, he got up at 5:30AM on this day.

Cheapskate

Owen has been on a “I want a DS” kick lately. Apparently, some of his friends at summer camp have one. Then he started asking for the Super Mario Wii game. We encouraged him to save his money to get one (I was pretty sure he was low on funds, so I figured it would take a while to save up).
So while we were at Target yesterday, he went to the game section and inspected the package box carefully. He noted that it cost $50 and talked all the way home about ways he was going to earn money. This morning, he got up and came straight downstairs with his wallet in his hand “MOM, I HAVE $50 ALREADY SAVED! Can we go to Target today?” But then Will pointed out that Amazon had it for $35. I told Will that it was up to Owen whether or not he wanted to pay the lower price and wait for it to come in the mail (I wasn’t going to take the heat for standing between a boy and his game!). Well, I can’t believe it, but Owen said he wanted to order it for the lower price! I asked him a couple of times to make sure he understood that it might be several days before it arrived, and he said yes, but “Mom, it will save money”. Miracles never cease – between this and the comment that he made to Gram asking “what is a mall?”, I have hope for him after all =)

Soccer

Owen has really enjoyed soccer this season - and so have I. I hate to sound like a horrible mother, but his previous forays into team sports have not been that exciting for me - just one more thing to try and cram into a weekend. But this year the kids are actually excited about playing (no more holding hands with your teammates while running down the field). And BONUS - I have discovered that Owen actually has some natural athletic ability. I swear that he is one of the fastest kids on the team (gets that from his dad, obviously). And he is extremely intense. Gets really excited about playing and really gives it his all. And I have to laugh, because he sometimes "coaches" other kids on the team - I see him going up and putting his hand on their shoulder and then gives a pep talk - "good job" or whatever.

Here are some action shots. I hope to have some video up later once Will transfers it from the camera to the computer for me.

Oh, and Owen would be upset if I did not mention that he scored 3 of the 4 goals in today's game.

Here's a pic of Owen playing goalie

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dahlonega

Went to Dahlonega yesterday for the AVVBA memorial dedication. As another family member says, "The perfect Reese family outing – involves the military, Dahlonega, irritable participants (ranging from 4 to 84) after a long drive, and close proximity to a cemetery."

I can report that a good time was had by all.

We clean up real nice

As usual, at least one person would not look at the camera. Jack was in a mood this day and did not want to put down his game. This was the only way he would even stand still for the pic.
