Random thoughts

Will notes that Jack has been asking slightly more “complicated” questions lately. For instance, questions about the past and the future. “Dad, when are we going to Wyoming?” “Dad, what did we do with the trains from yesterday?” Although, he uses the term “yester-night”, which always makes Will smile.

They both went for a dental checkup today - look ma! no cavities! - which is good. we are thinking about getting jack's teeth protected with sealants like owen's. It is so expensive and these are his baby teeth. but the motivating factor is that i still have flashbacks about when owen got his first cavities. we had gone to the dentist and she noted that owen had really deep grooves in his back teeth that would be very difficult to keep clean (i think he may have inherited that from me). she recommended sealants and said we could do them at the next 6 month appt. well, at the next sixth month appt it was too late! he had 9 cavities in 8 teeth! nothing worse than the dentist telling you that. I felt like MOTHER OF THE YEAR.

Owen is really getting into reading chapter books. I had brought various ones home from the library that he seemed to like. Then for his birthday he received a couple of the books from the "Captain Underpants" series. Well, that author must really know what boys like because he has become OBSESSED with these books. He read the first book (20 chapters) in an afternoon, then finished the second one on the following day after he got up and tried to read it all before church. Then he figured out there were more books in the series and wanted to call Aunt Ann to ask her where she had bought these books. Then I showed him how to log on the the library's website to see which branch had copies of the book he was looking for. That then led to major excitement, followed by tears when he was told that branch was closed for the day (Sunday) and he'd have to wait 24 hours before we could pick it up. Then he was riding Will and I to stop on the way home to pick it up. Thankfully, Dad saved the week by bringing home a copy. I hope this obsession lasts and that maybe the enthusiasm will transfer to books I like, like Little House on the Prairie.
